The four hour drive took six hours. We were all tired and hungry when we arrived. There is a Christian camp…event…here at the Marriott. The halls are full of enthusiastic teens. Preteens and occasional chaperons making lots and lots of noise.
The show last night in Rochester was really lovely. The stage was wide and the audience in the theater seemed to be spread out for half a block. I really liked it. I miss the big places.
The crowd seemed to be waiting for me…each step… and I fell into this roll I have rarely played of…confident director of events. I recall saying ‘a lot of talent up here’ and they clapped. It was spontaneous. It seemed more like a grown up jazz event. Well, that’s what it was right? A jazz festival. But…what I mean is I felt in my own shoes.
How do I explain this? Radical self-acceptance? Refusing to live in comparison? I am this woman, this age, this time. There is no other. And with that in mind, I quite adored our show.
Hope you get to see it, hear it while radical self-acceptance is in effect.
Here are Petra Haden, Mike Dillon, me, and Ben Rosenblum.
I’m gonna watch a movie.
See ya in New York City.
